Nomex® Flame Resistant Fiber Turns 50 Years Old and OTEX Specialty Narrow Fabrics is Celebrating Right Along with Dupont, its Inventor!

Every day at OTEX Specialty Narrow Fabrics, Inc. our looms are weaving Nomex and Kevlar fibers into protective narrow fabrics for dozens of different uses in Fire Fighting, Aerospace, Oil & Gas and so many more environments requiring protective gear.

DuPont invented Nomex 50 years ago and DuPont™ Protection Solutions has announced that it is kicking off a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of DuPont™ Nomex®, an inherently heat- and flame-resistant fiber. Throughout the year, a series of celebratory events and activities will be held to mark this major milestone.

"During the past 50 years, Nomex® has helped keep people safe while they drilled beneath the earth's core, rocketed to outer space and tackled countless other challenges that were once considered impossible," said John Richard, DuPont™ Nomex® global business director.

Here at OTEX Specialty Narrow Fabrics, we are marking this landmark anniversary as well! We are innovating new ways to weave Nomex® and Nomex®/Kevlar® for the most demanding industries. Nomex® brand fiber is used across a diverse range of applications, but it is perhaps best known as a critical component in protective apparel.

Nomex® is also used in apparel worn by military pilots and combat vehicle crew; auto racing drivers, pit crew members and track officials; and industrial workers at risk from flash fire and electric arc hazards.

The OTEX Fabric Innovation Lab works with Nomex® Kevlar® and other advanced aramids to innovate and develop new products for our clients.
